Guild Wars 2 players could enjoy the game on Mac computers over the past eight years but that era is coming to an end on February 18, 2021. This is the date when Mac systems will no longer be able to access Guild Wars 2 as the support for them will end, although the decision doesn't seem to be just ArenaNet's whim.
Namely, it was Apple who ended support for OpenGL graphics technology on Mac OS back in 2018 and this is the tech that Guild Wars 2 uses to run on those computers. Games and other software, including GW2, that rely on OpenGL still work on Mac systems for the time being but Apple did note this would not be the case in the future OS versions.
On top of that, the future Mac computers will be designed with a new chipset in mind which will cause further problems with compatibility which will make support 'very costly and difficult' for ArenaNet since they would need to work with both the old and new processor designs.
This may not spell the end of GW2 gaming for those currently using Apple's products since their accounts will not be erased, banned or made unavailable in any other manner. They will simply need a platform other than Apple's to run the game.
Alternatively, Mac users can still use GeForce Now to stream the game over the internet and bypass the compatibility issues since the client will be running on Nvidia's rigs.
