macOS Big Sur was officially released for all users in November last year, and since then Apple has released updates with bug fixes and overall improvements. However, as reported by Mr. Macintosh, Big Sur still has a serious issue that can result in data loss when users try to upgrade a Mac to the latest version of the operating system without enough space available.
After noticing several reports from users on the web, Mr. Macintosh found out that the macOS Big Sur installer isn’t checking whether the Mac’s internal storage has enough free space. As the system initiates the update process, the Mac becomes unresponsive, and data can be permanently corrupted.
Apple says upgrading to macOS Big Sur for the first time requires at least 35.5 GB of available storage — and this doesn’t include the 13 GB macOS Big Sur installer. Unfortunately, even if your Mac does not have 35.5 GB of storage available, macOS will try to install the Big Sur update, and that’s when users may lose all their data.
The update process seems to run perfectly, but users get the following message near the end of the installation:
An error occurred preparing the software update.
From that point on, the Mac will no longer boot. Mr. Macintosh was able to confirm that this bug affects macOS Big Sur 11.2 installer and even macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta installer. At the same time, this doesn’t affect OTA updates from one Big Sur installation to another (such as updating from macOS 11.1 to macOS 11.2).
If you have a backup of your data, you can simply erase the entire disk and reinstall macOS. However, recovering data without a backup can be very difficult.
With FileVault enabled, you have to connect your Mac to another Mac via Target Disk Mode in order to recover your files. If FileVault wasn’t enabled on your Mac, you can try to delete some files using the Terminal app in macOS Recovery, which will allow macOS to complete the update process successfully.
Apple hasn’t commented on this bug so far, but hopefully it will be fixed with the final release of macOS Big Sur 11.3. You can read more details about this problem on the Mr. Macintosh blog.

Overview
Steal the Ore. Protect your ship.
Use your ship to collect the Ore, and place it in the teleporter while avoiding asteroids and alien attack. You have no weapon. Use your shield to protect your ship.
Controls
The player can use either Keyboard or a Game Controller.
The game supports many common game controllers, XBox, Playstation 4, and many exotic rare types too. For any that don't work, or only partly work, press F1 to remap the controls. When connecting a controller, an icon will be displayed in the top right hand corner.
Unless the keyboard controls have been remapped, the standard keys are:
WASD | Shield Position |
Cursors | Bandit Movement |
Space | Start Game |
Escape | Exit re-map screen, go back to the title screen, or Quit the game |
F1 | Re-map screen for Controllers and Keys |
Zero | Take a screenshot |
Enter | Select control to re-map (in the re-map screen) |
Alt Enter | Toggle Fullscreen Mode |
Objective
Pilot your Bandit craft through the asteroids looking for the Blue Ore, the property of the aliens. The Ore is held in Outpost Satellites.
Use your HUD to locate the Satellite that contains the next collectible Ore. Return each Ore to your central teleporter device. Once a piece of Ore is teleported away, the next available Ore will be shown on your HUD.
Once four pieces of Ore are collected, you progress to the next level. There are ten levels to complete.
The HUD will also show the position of the Aliens that are teleporting into your region.
There are two types of Aliens, the standard ship, and the Seeker.
As you progress through the levels, the density of the asteroids will increase and so will the chances of encountering Seekers.
You do not have a weapon. You are only equipped with a movable shield. The shield can only defend a small part of the Bandit craft at a time. And there is only limited time to use the shield before a recharge is required.
If the Aliens manage to shoot or collide with the Bandit, a piece of the Bandit will be destroyed. Once the Aliens manage to break their way into the Bandit's core, the craft will be destroyed and the game will end.
Collisions with asteroids have a concussive effect. A piece of the Bandit will be lost and the craft will become unresponsive for two seconds.
Space Bandit Mac Os X
If you try to leave the play zone, your ship will slow to a crawl, and your HUD will flash as a warning. You must re-enter the play zone. The Aliens can easily pick you off outside the play zone.
There is a Bonus for taking risks to complete a Level quickly. The Bonus will start depleting after 30 seconds.
